Hostel or PG? Comparing Cost, Safety and Freedom

College hostels are usually cheaper, closer, and come with fixed meal plans and curfews. PGs cost more but offer flexibility and, often, better rooms.

Compare monthly totals, not headline rent. Add mess or food costs, electricity, laundry, internet and deposit amortised over your stay.

For safety, check entry logging, warden or caretaker presence, lighting on the approach road, and how far the nearest transport stop is after dark.

Visit at the time you would actually return home, not at noon. Neighbourhoods change character considerably after 9 pm.

Whatever you choose, get the terms in writing: notice period, deposit refund conditions, and what happens during vacation months.
